Mexican engineer develops eco-friendly sweetener that could help diabetics worldwide

Diabetes is a growing problem worldwide. The World Health Organization estimates that it affects more than 420 million people and is on the rise.

While causes may vary, the results are the same — dangerous levels of sugar in the blood that can damage the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and nerves.

In Mexico, one man’s concern for his diabetic father led him to develop an inexpensive and eco-friendly sugar substitute.
