As the North American migration crisis continues into 2024, thousands of migrants a year pass through Mexico in order to reach the U.S. southern border.

However, as Mexican authorities crack down on irregular northbound migration, many migrants are choosing to remain south of the border, where local governments are doing what they can to help.
