Date exports from Mexico

One farmer in Mexico is tapping into demand for a crop no one in his country really wants, and it is proving to be a real money maker.

In Baja, Mexico, dates are grown year-round and sent around the world to Dubai.

The value of Baja dates has grown from $4 million in 2014 to $11 million in 2017. Locals say they can make five times more exporting dates than selling it in Mexico. CGTN's Alasdair Baverstock reports.
